Floral Cushion for Baby Room

I just finished this sweet cushion with pom pom trim and coordinating spotty fabric on the back for my baby girl's new room.





It goes well with a cosy blanket I made a couple of years ago which has been well used and much loved.


It's made mostly with Cath Kidston fabrics and backed in pale blue fleece which is super soft and cosy.  It's ideal as a play mat and washes and dries easily.
It also makes a lovely cuddle blanket on chilly days.

 The storage buckets can be made in a flash in all different sizes and are perfect for storing nappies, wipes, cotton wool or even toys.  If you want to make them I would advise using heavier weight cotton or if you choose lightweight then you'd be best to iron on or sew in some fabric stiffener so they stand up and aren't too floppy.
These have be super useful!

House Cushion

Here's the cushion I made for my niece for Christmas......

I had been planning to make her a cushion for her room for a while but fancied doing something different from a simple patchwork design, so I came up with this idea after making the little Higglety Pigglety Houses a few weeks back (which I knew she liked).
This one is obviously on a much larger scale and had a strict colour palette to match her room - blue and purple.

Ok, so you can't buy house shaped inner cushions...I don't think?? So here's a quick guide as to how I did it.

I drew a paper pattern the size of the cushion (35x35cm) and added a triangular roof shape on the top side.  Then I added a 1cm seam allowance all the way around.  I cut the house shape out using plain white cotton.  Fill it using the original cushion pad and toy stuffing to fill the roof space. 

Then just carry on with the outer design.

It turned out well and she seemed delighted!

I've been making a few different cushions recently when I get some sewing time, which isn't much at the moment.

It's a Scandi print with coordinating fabrics and a white pom pom trim.

Pink Cushion

I've started making things for Christmas - there you go I said it!  

I know it's only September but it's taking so long to sew anything at the moment that it's better starting now. 






This is the same fabric I used for the teddy bedding:  the Sarah Jane bundle, and the cushion is trimmed with pink lace and creamy-white ric rac.

I especially love the dark pink fabric covered with tiny little flowers.

 

I wonder who will get this cute girly pink cushion for Christmas?
