Old MacDonald Stick Puppets

These came about by accident as many things do when we start to play and make.

I bought these animal sticky shapes a while back in one of those bargain stores for next to nothing. 

The quality of the images isn't great but they're good enough for collage/sticky pictures, especially considering the price.




We had a whole load of crafty 
bits and bobs out today including these and I just happened to peel off the backing of one of the animals and stick it on a lolly stick.  


We were happily playing with them but the back was still mainly exposed and very sticky so to cover up the sticky bit I just cut out some colourful circles and stuck them on which worked well.....

Before we knew it we had made a whole set as well as a cup to hold them all!

We've been singing away today, and not just Old Macdonald.....

What about making some more pigs and telling the story of the 3 Little Pigs, or singing This Little Piggy, Baa Baa Black Sheep or Giddy Up Horsey?

Pumpkin Finger Puppets

Firstly thank you to Twodaloo for this idea that I found on Pinterest, or maybe it was Facebook, but wherever I came across it, I've been meaning to make these little cuties since last Halloween so when my little one came home from playgroup with the 5 Little Pumpkins rhyme I was determined to make them this year!  

Here's the rhyme....

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.

The first one said, “oh my it’s getting late.”

The second one said, “there are witches in the air!”

The third one said, “but we don’t care.”

The fourth one said, “let’s run and run and run.”

The fifth one said, “we’re ready for some fun.”

Ooooh went the wind and out went the light.

And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

I used Twodaloo's idea to make my own puppets but stitched them by hand instead of machine because sometimes it's just nice to do a little hand sewing in front of the TV at night.

If you want to make them, you'll need black, orange and a little green felt and I added the gate with some white felt.



Although they are actually finger puppets and can be used as such, I set them up on our felt board and created a little Autumn scene too - just to add to the creative fun.

Woodland Puppets

We were reading The Gruffalo today and I suddenly remembered some puppets I made a while back for my class when we spent a few weeks working on a Gruffalo theme.

They loved playing with them at the time and put on little shows for each other from behind the puppet theatre I have in the class, reciting the very familiar lines from the story and retelling the story in their own way.

So I went searching for them today and here they are!  

Made up from scraps I had lying around the house.  I  should also to thank my (then) teaching partner for throwing a few bits and pieces my way.

They were easy enough to make and - if you can find suitable scraps - free!!

I took a picture of the paper patterns I drew so you can see how simple they are.  But for some strange reason I noticed that although I have four patterns and four puppets, I have a fox pattern but a mouse puppet.  

Can't remember quite how that happened but maybe I'll get around to making a fox soon!
