Glittery Spiders

When we got up this morning it looked more like November than September with all the fog and fallen leaves. 

Fortunately it's not that cold yet. 

But there are spiders webs everywhere and the overnight dampness has shown them all up with glittery dew. They look magical! 

We made some this morning using big card circles punched with holes and then threaded colourful wool through. 

Brilliant skills for little fingers! 

To finish, we added some cheeky spiders and a flourish of glitter. Well, it's getting to that time of year and we all love a bit of glitter!

Incy Wincy Spider Play Set

Well, you should have seen the enormous spider that came scuttling across the floor the other morning in our house and a glass was not enough to cover it.  

I even had to call on hubbie for assistance and a cereal bowl, to cover it.  Gosh they are HUGE this year.






So, in-keeping with the recent spider theme, here is the latest creation....an Incy Wincy Spider play set.







Super easy to make from felt: I cut a drainpipe, sun, rain cloud and of course a cheery little spider with eight ribbon legs.  

And as we have looking at and talking about webs so much recently, I also added a sparkly web made from silver ribbon, which the spider apparently likes to hide under.

We've had great fun playing with this little set, I wonder which rhyme I could tackle next?

Spider Playground

It's that time of year when you are cosied up in the evening with a cuppa watching something interesting and suddenly out of the corner of your eye you see a HUGE spider scuttling across the floor.

They all manage to somehow sneak inside at this time of year and even when you put them out, they find their way back in pretty quickly.



We've been spotting spider's webs all over the place recently - in the garden and playpark that is...hopefully not toooooo many inside!  

And did you know if you touch the web really gently with a little leaf the spider will come rushing out to see what he has caught?  
A bit mean to trick the spider but very interesting for little ones!

Anyway, we made our own little spider playground recently with fallen leaves, pebbles, sticks and plant pots and we've hidden our pretend spiders in amongst it all, I wonder if the real spiders will come to play too?

Spooky Spider Hide and Seek

We had so much fun playing hide and seek with this sensory tub this morning that we were running late to meet friends for a walk. 

Can you spot the rats and spiders?

Here they are!

It's easy to make and takes no time at all!....

Cut up some black tissue paper and put it in the tub with  a few pine cones, leaves and any other suitable bits you have and then add the spiders and rats, hiding them under the leaves and paper.  
I also meant to add some sticks/twigs but totally forgot.






The creepy crawlies are really difficult to see among the black paper which makes it even more fun as you have to dig around and lift things/turn them over. 

Monty is only 17 months and had fun hiding the rats and spiders, but I'm sure if I took this tub into my class of 6 year olds, they would enjoy it too - on a completely different level.
