Dinosaur Play in the Garden

The sun has come out at last and I should think so too in June!

So we've been out in the garden today and made this little dinosaur world. 

We had some trees cut recently and I asked for the offcuts for playing with - they have so many uses!

Here they've been used as platforms for the dinosaurs to climb on and jump from.  

I added a piece of shimmery blue fabric I have as a river/lake and some green mesh for grass.

Set against a leafy background it makes for lots of dino fun...

...Roar!!!

Summer Flower Fun

The weather here has been gorgeous over the last few weeks and that combined with our summer break means that the sewing and making side of things has pretty much come to a standstill over the last few weeks.
But we've still been busy playing and having fun.


Today we found some petals lying on the grass that had fallen off some beautiful pinky-red roses so we decided to pick them up and then collect some more flowers from around the garden and float them in some water.  



The colours are fabulous don't you think?  They just say summer!

Anyway, little one poked, prodded, dunked and sailed the flowers along like little boats before watering them and then decided that they needed some company and added a couple of ducks and a shark.  

Well why not?  

They need water too, right?!

Ice Play....Brrrr!

Today was the first proper frost of the season so we got wrapped up and went out to play in the garden. 


We found ice had formed in the water play tubs - which were full from the recent heavy rain.









It was just sheets of ice sitting on the top of the water but they were thick enough to carefully pick up and hold for a minute or two to look at the icy patterns before they shattered.

Some fell on the deck and we put the rest into another tub to investigate.

Monty held the ice shards briefly but found them shockingly cold, especially on such a chilly day!

Then we shook the ice in the tub and found it made a great sound - definitely his favourite part of this experience.

Wooden Building Blocks

Here are some home made wooden blocks I 'made' - for free!
Well, sort of free.

We had some small offcuts of wood leftover recently when we had some new decking built in our garden. 
Rather than throw the bits away I asked the builder to cut them into smaller blocks and then I sanded down the rough edges.  







  There are only a few blocks just now but there is a good variety of long and short and they are much larger than traditional building blocks.







They can stay in the garden for outdoor play and I might even ask the builder to save any other bits he might have so we can keep adding to our set of blocks.... not bad for free!
